Yesterday I rather quickly decided to make a top 10 post, and so here we are. 2015 has been a huge year for me, beauty wise, as I landed my first retail makeup artist job at Bobbi Brown in April, where I had 6 amazing months, and then moved on to work for MAC Cosmetics in October. Throughout all of 2015 I’ve been trying new things, gathering new skills, and I’ve been genuinely curious. I feel like I’ve learnt so many new things, and I’m ready to start a new year with full focus on makeup, skin, hair and so on. This post is going to be 10 little quick reviews, seeing that most of these products are of “holy grail” status, and they deserve proper in depth reviews individually. I plan on making more in depth reviews throughout 2016, more photo posts of beauty looks, and posts on general well being and lifestyle as well. Now, these are in no particular order, some of them I’ve used for years, and some are brand new discoveries. Let’s get cracking, shall we?
PIXI GLOW TONIC
My number one toner. This absolute gem of a skincare product has completely changed the way my skin feels, the way it looks, and the way it reacts to products. This is – of course – a recommendation from the amazing Caroline Hirons, and one that I cannot be without. My skin feels smoother, acne scars are slowly fading away along with the appearance of fine lines. I’ve been through 4-5 bottles already, I’ve got one stocked up, and two on the way. Obsessed, yes! All in all, this is 100% holy grail status, and I hope we may never part. Amen.
YVES SAINT LAURENT BLACK OPIUM EAU DE PARFUM
Such a sweet and lovely fragrance. This was given to me on Christmas eve 2014 by my oldest brother, and I’ve actually managed to use it all up throughout 2015. It’s that good. It’s one of those scents that’s sweet, but not overly sweet or sweet in a cheap way. It has notes of vanilla which is very dominant, coffee which feels warm and cosy, and orange blossom which makes a lovely fresh top note. I’m quite sad that it’s gone, but it’s one of those quite rare (to me anyway) perfumes that I want to repurchase. Also, the bottle being wrapped in black glitter just makes me love it even more.
£45 – DKK445
MAC PREP+PRIME NATURAL RADIANCE
In 2015 I truly discovered the power of face primers, having never previously been a big fan. I’ve tried quite a few different ones so far, and I keep going back to this. Natural Radiance comes in two tones, Pink and Yellow. Pink is meant for the fairer complexions, and yellow for the darker. This is both moisturising, oil absorbing, glowing (it has subtle pearlescent shimmer), and has a slightly smoothening effect. What’s not to love? I find that whatever foundation I wear, it glides on effortlessly with this as a base, and it lasts so much longer. It doesn’t look cakey, it doesn’t crack or crease, and best of all – my face doesn’t get shiny. Huzzah! You only need a tiny amount, you get a huge bottle, and it smells divine.
£29.50 – DKK300 – $41
LUSH SNOW FAIRY SHOWER GEL
My new favourite shower gel. For years, I’ve been looking at this during Christmas thinking “hmm, should I?”. Then one of my colleagues, who was going to Berlin, said she was going by Lush, and if there was anything I wanted. This! I decided it was finally time to give it a go. And I’ve fallen completely in love. I use it ever so sparingly, so it’s not all gone too soon. It’s a bright pink thick gel with light blue shimmer, it smells so sweet and delicious I want to eat it (website says candyfloss scent..), and it feels soft and moisturising. Most definitely stocking up on this next year, as it’s a limited edition only available around Christmas.
BOBBI BROWN FULL COVERAGE FOUNDATION BRUSH
Such a game changer in applying foundation. Obviously, as the name states, it’s made for a full coverage application, but with a gentle hand you can do light and medium coverage as well. It’s made of the softest synthetic bristles, and it doesn’t soak up your foundation, which is my main problem with the Beauty Blender (that I now only use for finishing touches). This gives a perfect ultra HD look to your foundation with no streaks. I stipple this on gently in circles, and add more coverage where I feel like it. Ah-mazing. It’s quickly become my one of my all time favourite foundation brushes.
£31 – $44
& OTHER STORIES BODY MIST
A quick and cheap way to try out new scents. I was ever so pleased when & Other Stories opened a shop in my hometown, and I probably visit a bit too often. I’m just so in love with their scent universe. Body scrubs, perfumes, body mists, body soufflé, hand creams, candles. You name it, they’ve got it. My personal favourites are “Fig Fiction” (an absolute winner in the blogging world), “Arabesque Wood”, and “Moroccan Tea”. This being a body mist, you can spritz on quite a lot. I like spritzing them on my shirt of the day, wrists, and neck. You can buy the body mists in a small travel size, and a large bottle to keep at home. I’m completly smitten with the travel sizes, as they fit in any handbag for a touch up later on the day. Obviously, the scent doesn’t last as well as an eau de parfum, but they do really last quite well for a body mist. Great scents and a small price to pay. Definite winner.
£5 – DKK55
TOO FACED SHADOW INSURANCE
Having gone through so many different eyeshadow primers over the years, I’ve found my one and only. I’ve stuck with this for the last year or two, and I have absolutely NO complaints whatsoever. Good product, alright price, only need a tiny bit – well worth it. This is one of those products I repurchase without even considering it. Of course I need to buy it again! It’s simply the best (better than all the rest). With this my eyemakeup stays in the same place for 12 hours+. I’ve done numerous tests comparing it with other primers, and nothing comes close. I have really oily lids, so I need a little something extra to make it last, and there’s no doubt here. This is a winner.
ESTÉE LAUDER ADVANCED NIGHT REPAIR SYNCHRONIZED RECOVERY COMPLEX II SERUM
What a mouthful! This serum has – along with Pixi Glow – completely changed my skin. It’s such a amazing feel to apply this, my skin drinks it up, and instantly looks much healthier. I used to have these dehydration lines on my forehead, where my makeup would crinkle up in dry lines. Those have gone, thank you very much. I recommend this to anyone who will listen to me talk for more than just “hello”, as it’s simply phenomenal. I use it every single night, religiously, and I can’t be without it. This is next level holy grail. If you can afford the big bottle, treat yo’ self.
£70 – DKK795 – $92
ANASTACIA BEVERLY HILLS DIPBROW
Another game changer. Like so many others, my brows have gone through major change in 2015. The year of the brows! I decided to jump the Dipbrow bandwagon, slightly sceptical after years of swearing by my MAC 266 brush and “Charcoal Brown” eyeshadow. I started out by practising with different brushes, and there’s no doubt; synthetic all the way with this product. I recently purchased an Anastacia Beverly Hills brush specifically made for this product, and it is absolutely divine. Perfect for both really bold and edgy brows (my favourite), and super natural with drawn on hairs. This product does it all. I’ve been able to use the shade “Medium Brown” on both blondes, redheads, brunettes, and myself. It’s all in the application! This is the best brow product I’ve ever come across. Holy grail status.
BUMBLE & BUMBLE PRÊT-À-POWDER
The softest and most gentle dry shampoo I’ve tried so far. It’s a bit of an investment, considering the price tag of your regular Batiste, but this is something completely different. You can hardly even feel this in your hair, and you can’t see it. Coming from someone who gets greasy hair the day after washing it, I go through a lot of dry shampoos. I have the big version at home, and a cute little travel version too. It smells amazing, it feels so soft, and I find myself reaching for this every other day. I’ve had it for a good 9 months, there’s still 1/3 of it left, and I have quite a lot of hair, so it’ll last you a long time. My second day saviour.
£22 – DKK268
And that’s it. That’s my super spontaneous top 10 beauty list of 2015. I hope you enjoyed it, I hope you had a lovely Christmas, and I wish you all the best in the new year. Be safe on New Years eve.
Lots of love,
